The evaporative cooling technology is a newly high efficient and cost effective cooling technology. It exchanges the heat by the phase transition of its cooling media with high insulation and low boiling point, and then transfers the heat in order to cool the heating coils.
The Institute of Electrical Engineering of China Academy of Sciences has started the application research on evaporative cooling technology since 1958. Cooperating with many units, it develops in succession the application to the fields of power generation, electrical drive, low voltage electric appliance, iron-removing and mineral processing equipment. Its technologies of theoretical research and industrial application are in the leading level at home and abroad. It has the fully independent intellectual property rights.
In the remarkable Three Gorges Project, there're 2 sets 840MVA evaporative cooling hydro-generators researched by HUATE in the underground power plant. They were put into operation officially in December, 2011 and July, 2012. This marks the successful application of evaporative cooling technology.
